What Every Company Director Needs to Know
Big changes are coming for all UK company directors and people with significant control (PSCs).
From 18 November 2025, Companies House will introduce mandatory ID verification as part of a wider initiative to enhance transparency, reduce fraud, and enhance the security of company information.
If you’re a company director, this change will impact you, so it’s essential to understand what’s required, when to take action, and how Infinity can help make the process stress-free.
What’s Changing?
Until now, Companies House hasn’t verified the identity of directors or PSCs when companies are set up or filings are submitted. That’s about to change.
From 18 November 2025, all directors, PSCs, and individuals submitting documents on behalf of a company must verify their identity either directly with Companies House or through an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP), such as Infinity Accounting.
You’ll have 12 months from the start date to complete verification. After that, you won’t be able to act as a director or file company information until it’s done.
How to Complete Your ID Verification
There are two ways to get verified:
Option 1: Direct with Companies House
You can complete your verification online using the official Companies House system, which will use the GOV.UK One Login.
This involves uploading ID documents, taking a live photo, and following their secure process.

Option 2: Through Infinity Accounting
If you’d prefer us to manage the process for you, we can complete verification on your behalf using secure biometric technology.
Our service includes:
- Accredited biometric ID verification
- Live photo matching for security
- Submission of your verification to Companies House
- Acting as your Authorised Corporate Service Provider
Cost: £75 + VAT per person
This means we handle the admin and ensure everything is submitted accurately and securely, saving you time and hassle.
Why This Matters
Once you’ve verified your identity, you’ll be issued an 11-digit personal code by Companies House. This code is essential we’ll need it to continue filing your documents on your behalf.
If you don’t complete verification within the required timeframe:
- You may not be able to act as a director
- Companies House could reject your filings
- In some cases, you could face financial penalties or criminal enforcement
Why the Change?
These reforms are part of the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act and are designed to:
- Combat fraud and improve data security
- Ensure company records are accurate and up to date
- Build trust by verifying every individual listed on the Companies House register
With around 6–7 million people expected to verify their ID, acting early means avoiding delays closer to the deadline.
